Hannah and the Rainbow Rescue
In her cosy bedroom, which smelled like strawberry lip balm and clean pyjamas, Hannah was drawing. Her walls were a rainbow wonderland, covered in sparkly unicorn stickers and her own colourful drawings. Hannah loved making things beautiful, and most of all, she loved helping. Whether it was setting the table for dinner or tidying her toys into a neat little parade, Hannah was Mum's best little helper.
Suddenly, the sky outside her window turned a grumpy grey. The wind whistled a little 'whoooo' sound, and rain began to patter like tiny drumbeats on the glass. As Hannah watched, a gust of wind shook the big gum tree in the garden, and a tiny baby magpie tumbled from its nest, landing softly but scared in the wet grass. It let out a tiny, shivery 'peep, peep, peep!'
Hannah knew she had to help! She ran to her toy box and grabbed her softest, fluffiest unicorn plushie, making a little nest for the bird inside her room. She even draped her favourite rainbow scarf over it. But the baby bird just sat there, looking confused and sad, letting out another little 'peep, peep, peep'. Hannah felt a wobble in her tummy. Her helpful plan wasn't working.
Just then, she saw the mama magpie flying near the window, calling out for her baby. Hannah realised the little bird didn't want a new unicorn home; it wanted its own mummy in its own nest! With a brilliant idea, she ran to find Dad. "Dad, we need to help!" Together, they carefully scooped the baby bird into a small bucket, and Dad, being very tall, gently lifted it right back into the branchy nest. The mama bird swooped in, chirping happily.
As if by magic, the rain stopped, and the sun peeked out. A magnificent, shimmering rainbow stretched across the sky, right over the gum tree. Hannah watched from her window, her heart feeling as bright and warm as the colours in the sky. She knew that being helpful was the best magic of all, especially when it brings a family back together under a beautiful rainbow.
